Dr Sushmita Hunter and Dr Kerryn Loftus are Consultant Psychogeriatricians and Psychiatrists 

 

 

Are Fellows of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Dr Hunter and Dr Loftus are members of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry.

Areas of specialty include the assessment and treatment of:

  • Dementia

  • Depression over 18 years

  • Neurological disorders where psychiatric symptoms are the concern

  • Anxiety disorders and chronic pain disorders over 18 years

  • Bipolar disorder over 18years

  • ADHD for adults 18 years and over

  • if schizophrenia happy to work with public mental health team but can not provide more than medication review (not able to offer team approach such as vocational help)

  • Do not specialise in NDIS reports and autism diagnosis or intellectual disability

  • Do not specialise in adolescent disorders and do not see children

  • No Workcover and no insurance work

Psychogeriatricians manage psychological and medical (often neurological) disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke related issues, and dementia. They both deal with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia throughout the life cycle. 

 

Dr Hunter is also affiliated with the Black Dog Institute, a centre for the treatment and research of mood disorders. 

 

Psychiatrists may prescribe medications. At times counselling only is employed. It will depend on the type and severity of the disorder.
